Carnegie Mellon, one of the world leaders in higher education and research, is seeking a Workplace Safety Specialist to join Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S).
We are looking for a dedicated professional to support the Workplace Safety Program within EH&S's day-to-day operations.
You will be responsible for supporting EH&S's Workplace Safety Manager in the development, deployment, quality assurance, and training of Workplace Safety Programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulatory obligations and university procedures. You will achieve these goals through collaboration with all EH&S staff in the efficient and integrated delivery of services.
Core responsibilities will include:
Ergonomic Evaluations: conduct ergonomic evaluations upon request from the university community. Communicate in writing the results and recommendations from the evaluation, which should be given to the customer in a timely manner.
Program Development: assist in the update and/or development of programs related to workplace safety, including but not limited to Log out tag out, Energy control etc.
Training: provide training and assistance to the university community in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory obligations as it relates to Workplace safety programs.
Quality Assurance: conduct periodic assessments of Workplace Safety programs with the university community to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory obligations.
Equipment Safety: collaborate with academic and students groups in the safe operation and handling of equipment located in shop and maker spaces.
Incident Management: provide assistance in the investigation and reporting of workplace-related injuries, and identify opportunities for process and program improvement.
Committeeparticipation: participate in Safety in the Arts and Shop Safety Committees, as needed.
Generalassistance: assist EH&S team members with workplace safety requests for service, and functions as a high performing, results driven team member.

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related safety field required.
Minimum three years of experience with workplace safety or related activities required.
Associate Safety Professional certification preferred.
