Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), the country's preeminent art and design school, located in historic Providence, RI, is seeking a Technical Assistant I to join our Department of Textiles.
Responsibilities of the Technical Assistant I for Textiles include maintaining and repair classrooms, facilities and equipment required in the department and/or work with outside vendors to arrange for more complicated repairs. Additional duties include inventorying and purchasing standard stock materials required to keep lab and classes operating smoothly and efficiently; and providing providing basic demonstrations of and instruction on the safe and proper use, care, storage, and, as appropriate, disposal of machinery, general equipment, safety equipment, and supplies/materials to faculty and students.
Job Qualifications Required:
Associates' degree in Fine Arts or equivalent combination of education and technical experience. One to two years' previous experience as a RISD technician /assistant either professionally or relevant student experience in the textile design or related field required. Excellent interpersonal communications skills and basic computer skills required.
Job Qualifications Preferred:
Previous knitting, weaving, and CAD experience preferred. Ability to build to technical specifications. Sensitivity to materials and precision. Knowledge of textile techniques and experience with textile software.
