The main purposes of this position are to plan and execute all mechanical, electrical, instrument and control maintenance of the plant, and perform other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and directs activities of Maintenance Department to provide safe working environment and promote attitude of safety awareness of all plant personnel including actively ensuring the safety of others.
Delegates functional activities to subordinates and ensures personnel safety, equipment safety, and high availability and reliability at minimum cost by maintaining and supervising personnel responsible for the maintenance of all facility equipment.
Plans maintenance outages using effective time management principles and input from other Department Heads.
Observe progress of work to evaluate efficiency and work quality, while keeping the Plant Manager aware of progress.
Investigates, evaluates and determines best application of new developments in order to assure maximum efficiency.
Prepares annual department budget and makes decisions regarding compliance with approved budget.
Oversees employee evaluation process for all department employees and ensures continuity of maintenance through maintenance training and development of personnel.
Oversees troubleshooting of plant problems related to Maintenance Department.
Implements the plant’s preventive and predictive maintenance program, including failure records in order to provide trend information to the Plant Manager.
Makes recommendations regarding employee hiring, transfers, promotions, discipline, and terminations.
Prepares and presents Committee and Board Reports as required.
Participates in equipment meetings to resolve equipment and operations problems.
Investigates Unit Trips and prepares reports detailing the cause.
Interprets company policies, methods, and develops specific operating procedures as required.
Prepares and coordinates Capital Projects.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Reliability Compliance Program.
Communicates with parts manufacturers to ensure parts are repaired as necessary.
Keeps current on technological changes in the industry and develops professional contacts through professional memberships, forums, conferences, etc.
Assigns and reviews work, completes performance reviews, supervises department personnel, and makes recommendations for hiring, transferring, promoting, disciplining, and dismissing employees.
Requires Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or equivalent, plus minimum of 5 years of lignite/coal power industry experience; or a high school diploma plus 15 years of lignite/coal power industry related experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical/Instrumentation, and Operations power plant equipment and overall plant operations, electrical tests and procedures, National Electric Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA), Doble testing, ERCOT Protocols and Guidelines, Public Utility Commission (PUC) rules, NERC CIP requirements, supervisory management, and safety practices and procedures. Skilled in conducting effective and confident communications, working with varied personalities. Ability to use safety gear and equipment; use hand tools; operate personal computer in LAN environment, using standard word processing, spreadsheet, and database software; and operate standard office equipment. Ability to reason through complex problems under pressure.
