The Department of Biology seeks an experienced research scientist/technician with expertise in biochemistry/molecular biology or a related field. The candidate must be able to work independently, but also work cooperatively, to support the goals of the lab and other lab members. The position will entail limited laboratory management duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts independent scientific research in support of laboratory goals. Provide technical and scientific support to other laboratory members.
Conducts experiments using common molecular/biochemical techniques including but not limited to PCR, RT-PCR cloning, western blotting, microscopy, gel electrophoresis, isolation of cellular fractions, enzymatic assays, growth analyses, and related procedures.
Collects, analyzes, and presents scientific data at a professional level, using the appropriate computer applications.
Interacts with and, potentially, be involved in the training of undergraduate and graduate students.
Limited lab management duties may include oversight of lab organization, equipment, safety, and the maintenance of common supplies and reagents.
Performs other related job duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
Master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field and 3 years of prior laboratory experience.
Experience with proper handling of hazardous chemicals and materials and other standard laboratory safety measures.
Experience with yeast biology and lipid analyses a plus, but not required.
Ability to perform the described duties and responsibilities
