The Facilities and Services Department at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Supervisor with Campus Services. Under the Direction of the Manager and/or Supervisor, the incumbent will oversee general cleaning of assigned areas at the Health Science Complex and Cancer Center. The incumbent will also work within Safety codes and regulations. This person will be responsible for training and work of other custodians.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate:
Assigns routine duties on shift. Oversees and inspects work of custodians. Demonstrates proper use of equipment and supplies. Responds to special requests by reassigning personnel as needed. Participates in planning of routine and special projects on shift.
Accompanies and closely directs custodians in moving furniture, setting up rooms for set-ups, etc. Participates in selection and evaluation of custodians. Recognizes and reports safety hazards involving furniture and equipment, floor s and obstructions to Housekeeping Maintenances. Orders, issues, secures and maintains records of cleaning supplies and equipment.
Trains new employees on the shift. Layout needs of job, sets and displays, estimate duration of job and manpower. Hire, fire and discipline assigned employees.
Ensures procedures are followed and mark work assignments to those individuals assigned to the crew for work to be completed in a timely fashion ensuring proper quality and quantity.
Assigns work orders. Interfaces with Control Center, Supervisors, Managers, and/or requesting party to finalize set-up needs, event needs and/or scope of request. Communicates work assignments to employees creating efficiency and a timely completion of assigned tasks.
Remains up-to-date on various cleaning products, equipment, safety procedures, medical monitoring and other associated practices of the custodial field.
Handles timely data entry related to leave request, tracking personal information, reviewing balances and maintaining posited leave credit balances. In accordance with the information incumbent is responsible for overall accuracy and adhering to University Polices related to leave request approvals, documentation up to and including proper use of University equipment and adhering to University Computer Policies regarding security and proper use.
Fills in for Maintenance Manager as required.
High school diploma or equivalent which is essential to provide the incumbent with the necessary skills to be a supervisor and perform basic administrative tasks.
Progressive supervisory or leadership performing similar work.
Broad based trades experience.
Operation of powered custodial equipment and how to apply custodial products.
Must be proficient in all areas of commercial cleaning and associated equipment and materials.
Knowledge of material check-out procedures and warehouse functions.
Knowledge of local, state and federal building safety, fire, and related construction codes.
Knowledge of industrial and environmental hazards and how to deal with them.
Knowledge of the use of personal computers and electronic mail.
Ability to make excellent eye to hand coordination for work in close quarters.
Ability to work in a stressful environment and work with tact when dealing with customers.
Ability to hear and interpret sounds in a construction area or on a busy job site.
Ability to stoop, bend, walk or crawl in close, rough, uncomfortable or slippery areas.
Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
Ability to work with multi-craft personnel and people outside the department.

Working from ladders and confined spaces as needed.
Lifting of items weighing up to 75 lbs. as needed.
