Position Summary: Responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation and maintenance of the facility’s zero-liquid discharge (ZLD) water treatment plant to include implementation, maintenance, and development of chemistry programs, system controls, and equipment for raw water, ZLD and demineralized water systems. Responsible for the scheduling, training, coaching, development, evaluation, and discipline administration of direct reports (Water Plant Operators).
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Monitor water plant operating processes and procedures to ensure that technicians operate the plant equipment safely, efficiently, and within design conditions while maintaining equipment integrity and reliability. Monitor chemical sampling systems and operator sampling practices to ensure representative sampling of equipment chemical and water systems. Monitor chemical treatment programs and make necessary changes to satisfy daily operational changes and practices. Responsible for optimizing water treatment cost. Develop standard operating procedures for water plant equipment and systems. Develop and administer training to assure employee familiarity and competence with SOPs and chemical safety. Develop report and performs analysis on plant equipment and systems to optimize performance. Review analytical data to ensure accuracy and completeness and initiate required actions for correction of data discrepancies. Provide a review of plant system operation with respect to analytical data obtained to resolve and improve plant chemistry. Interface with chemical suppliers and consultants as necessary to ensure chemical programs are operating at levels that meet the latest industry standards and practices for equipment safety and reliability. Conducts evaluations and provides feedback to the Operations Superintendent on performance of Operations Department personnel. Participates in weekend duty rotation as assigned by the Plant Manager. Available for emergency calls from the plant. Participates in maintenance planning as it relates to the water plant. Plans and coordinates with maintenance during plant outages to assure all corrective actions are completed.

Education and Experience Requirements: Associate or Bachelor degree in Chemistry or Engineering plus four (4) years in a work related industry; or high school diploma and ten (10) plus years of experience in a work related industry with strong demonstrated technical and managerial capability. Must have two (2) years previous experience in supervision of technical, operating, or maintenance personnel. Experience in ZLD water treatment plants is highly preferred.
Physical and Environmental Requirements: Requires working inside and outside of an electric generating plant in varying weather conditions and temperatures with extreme ranges of humidity and dryness. Requires working in areas of constant high noise and vibration levels and handling of non-hazardous and hazardous chemicals. Requires lifting, pushing pulling or carrying of weights equal to 50 pounds or more. Requires frequently climbing ladders and stairs. Requires frequent kneeling or squatting to access instrumentation and equipment. Requires wearing personal safety equipment, including breathing apparatus. Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted. Requires vision within normal range, corrective lens are permitted. May be called out for emergency situations at the site. Scheduled work hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend and after hours work.
