Evaluate, diagnose, and perform maintenance and repairs of work requests including all preventive maintenance (i.e. fleet vehicles, department vehicles, tractors and farm equipment, generators, and man lifts). Perform New York State vehicle inspections. Perform proper handling of chemicals.
This is a very unique opportunity to gain experience in two Cornell departments.
What we need:
As a temporary Vehicle Mechanic you'll serve both our Transportation and Grounds departments responsible for:
Performing a variety of vehicle mechanic services.
Routine service, repair and preventative maintenance on the Cornell Fleet/Grounds vehicles (trucks, vans, cars and small equipment).
Fuel and clean vehicles.
Complete minor repair work on gas engines.
Increase your skills by working with other mechanics to learn more complex maintenance and repair responsibilities.
Snow removal support as required.
What you need:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years vehicle mechanic experience.
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Have and maintain NYS vehicle inspector's license.
Experience using tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
Effective communication and customer service skills.
Ability to exercise good judgment with respect to vehicle repairs and equipment safety.
Proficiency using computers and ability to learn new software programs.
May be required to accept occasional overtime assignments.
Required to work flexible hours including weekends.
Must be able to lift and/or move 50 pounds.
Work requires standing, bending, climbing ladders.
Small equipment repair/maintenance and snow removal.
What would be nice...but not required!
Previous experience in commercial snow removal.
This is a temporary 3-5 month non-benefit eligible appointment offering a rate of pay of $21.81 per hour.
