At Stony Brook Medicine this Biomedical Engineer is responsible for supporting and maintaining medical devices in the Main OR, ASC, L&D and any other areas where surgical procedures are performed so that the surgical teams can safely provide the necessary patient care during these procedures.
Duties of Biomedical Engineer may include but are not limited to the following:
Inspect, repair, calibrate and perform preventive maintenance on hospital/surgical medical devices.
Isolate electronic and electromechanical medical equipment problems on-site and perform the necessary repair in an expedient manner.
Follow all policies, procedures and protocols necessary for working in a sterile environment.
Perform acceptance and quality assurance testing of medical devices according to protocols.
Complete all documentation on a timely basis after repair or maintenance.
Perform prescribed electrical equipment safety test on a routine basis as assigned and on all required equipment prior to return to service.
Participate in mandatory on-call/recall rotation after hours, on weekends and holidays as required.
Assemble and install medical electronic or electromechanical devices.
Assist in clinical in-service education on correct utilization of medical devices.
Evaluate new products /services as necessary.
Participate in training programs as per the BME Service Manager.
Participate in BME projects as assigned.
Additional hospital or BME technical duties as assigned.
Regular business hours are Monday-Friday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm or Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm depending upon rotating shift. Saturdays, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm depending upon weekly on-call schedule.
AAS in Electronics Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology or related degree.
Minimum ten (10) years of experience in the Biomedical Engineering field.
Excellent communication, customer service and leadership skills.
BS in Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related degree, and minimum fifteen (15) years of experience as a senior technician in medical electronic equipment repair and maintenance.
Hospital experience in a sterile OR environment preferred.
CBET certification preferred.
