The Casper Country Club is an 18-hole private member owned course situated on 158 acres at the base of Casper Mountain. Its surroundings offer spectacular views along with an abundance of wildlife.
General Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Casper Country Club General Manager, the Golf Course Superintendent organizes, supervises and directs the maintenance and management of the golf course and grounds. A new Toro Lynx LSM two wire irrigation system with new Watertronics pump stations at both the river transfer station and the Course irrigation pond were installed in 2022. Casper Country Club is dedicated to a high-quality presentation of its golf course and grounds.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises maintenance crew, seasonal employee hiring, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects, trains and evaluates staff, reviews the completed work to ensure the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties.
Continuously monitors golf course and grounds, including greens, tees, tees, fairways, rough and hazards; identifies projects and priorities, supervises the work activities to maintain, repair and improve the turf, grounds and irrigation systems; inspects work in progress and completed work for compliance to safety standards.
Assures the golf course maintains the best possible playing conditions including proper placement of pins, tee marker, and proper raking of bunkers.
Supervises and assists in the maintenance and repair of golf course irrigation system and water transfer pipeline. Supervises drainage problems, including irrigation controls and pumping stations; supervises proper water management.
Inspects and tests turf grasses and turf conditions and identifies irrigation problems; determines and implements appropriate action to restore turf to optimum playing conditions.
Oversees and performs pesticide, chemical and fertilizer applications; tracks hazardous chemicals, maintains reporting on OSHA Safety Data Sheets.
Works with Golf Professional to prepare for special events and tournaments.
Oversees the maintenance and operation of all golf course and grounds equipment.
Prepares and manages maintenance budgets.
Manages a variety of administrative activities including employee scheduling, payroll reporting, maintenance procedures and work activity reports, maintains inventories and assures that adequate materials, supplies, and tools are available; processes and responds to work requests and complaints.
Evaluates and analyzes issues, then recommends and implements solutions; provides leadership to assure that construction and maintenance programs are in alignment with the goals and objectives and within budget constraints.
Monitors and reviews trends in turf management and irrigation systems and recommends new equipment and maintenance procedures.
Winter season supervision of snow removal and equipment maintenance.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Position Requirements:
Minimum 5 years as golf course superintendent or assistant
2- or 4-year turf grass degree.
Wyoming Driver’s license or ability to obtain it within 30 days.
Wyoming Commercial Applicator’s license or ability to obtain it within 30 days.
Required Knowledge:
Golf course maintenance, turf management and agronomy principles and techniques.
Methods, equipment and materials used.
Proper operation, use and care of specialized tools and equipment.
Safety protocols for specialized equipment operation and the handling of pesticides and chemicals.
Golf course irrigation systems and proper watering techniques.
Experience in the Rocky Mountain Region with cool season grasses.
Required Skills:
Monitoring golf course and grounds and identifying maintenance and safety issues.
Evaluating golf course grounds, and soil conditions; managing projects to assure that the grounds and the turf are properly maintained.
Determining appropriate action with clearly defined guidelines.
Safely operating and maintaining various types of maintenance equipment and tools.
Assessing and prioritizing multiple projects, tasks and demands.
Supervising staff and delegating authority and tasks.
Physical demands/Work Environment
Work is performed outdoors and on the golf course in all weather conditions, and in the office environment. It will involve sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time; must be able to safely push, pull, lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds; exposure to pesticides, fertilizer and other hazardous chemicals.
Must be able to work irregular hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays to include tournaments and special events.
May be required to work immediately before, during or immediately after an emergency or disaster.
