The Washington University School of Medicine Operations & Facilities Management Department provides a range of services for the medical campus in a customer-focused, efficient, and sustainable manner. Operations & Facilities Management maintains 61 university buildings and provides operational, planning, and construction services to over 8.3 million gross square feet of space. We will open three new facilities between 2023 and 2025 with over 1.5M BGSF. In addition, the School of Medicine continues expanding its reach on and off campus in teaching, clinical care, and research. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Journeyman Carpenter to join our team at The Washington University School of Medicine. This position will be responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing various structures and fixtures within the facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carpentry, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Construct, install, and repair various structures and fixtures within the facility, including walls, ceilings, floors, doors, and windows.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the scope of work and materials required.
Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
Cut and shape materials to fit specific measurements, using hand and power tools.
Install structures and fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, and trim, using hand and power tools.
Inspect and repair damaged structures and fixtures, including drywall, plaster, and woodwork.
Maintain a safe and clean work environment, following all safety protocols and regulations.
Collaborate with other tradespeople, such as electricians and plumbers, to complete projects on time and within budget.
Working Conditions
Must be able to lift and carry tools and material weighing in excess of 50 pounds and be able to raise and carry with assistance items weighing 200 pounds.
Works inside and outside, in dusty and dirty places such as pits and equipment spaces where temperatures may exceed 100 degrees and equipment may be oily and greasy.Â
Exposed to wet and cold conditions and noise and vibration from operation equipment.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch to complete required work.
Handles a variety of hand and power tools.
Near-visual acuity is needed to read blueprints, diagrams, and equipment safety manuals.
Depth perception, field of vision, and color vision needed to complete required work.
Valid Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D driverâ™s license needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Vocational training preferred
Completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program or equivalent experience.
Five years of carpentry experience, preferably in a medical or research facility.
Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift heavy objects and work in confined spaces.
Microsoft Office.
Must have good customer service skills and the ability to communicate with diverse groups of people.
Individual must demonstrate proficiency to perform the position being filled.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
Equivalent of two to four years related experience in skill trade functions with demonstrated ability to perform varied maintenance tasks.

Salary Range
$24.97 - $38.71 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
